VtH 406 - Military Sunset
Created in 2024 during one of my mandatory Swiss military refresher courses — a “WK” (Wiederholungskurs).
My role at the time was essentially administrative. I spent most of my days setting up office computers and running an office during exercises. So, despite wearing a uniform, a surprising amount of my military service involved sitting in front of a computer.
The military network was a closed system running some wonderfully outdated software, including Microsoft Paint. During one of the night shifts, with too much time and not much else to do, I started making this.
I never managed to save the original file outside the military network. When the WK ended, the artwork stayed behind on a server I could no longer access.
There were a few prints made on the military's laser printer during that time. Those are now the closest thing to originals that still exist, and a few of them have even made their way into the world.
What you're looking at here is actually a photograph of the original artwork displayed on that computer screen. The original digital file is gone, and with it, the possibility of reproducing it exactly as it once existed.
In a strange way, this is the only version of the work I have left.
