Created in 2021 as a birthday present for my grandmother.

The work depicts two stellar figures dancing through space. The universe around them is blue, green and gold — three of my grandmother's favourite colours.

The whole thing started with an old oval mirror frame I found abandoned on the side of the street. I loved its delicate, slightly aged character and immediately wanted to put a painting inside it.

I had a few ideas for what could fill that space. Eventually, I arrived at two distorted figures, painted as constellations and floating somewhere through the universe.

While making it, I listened almost exclusively to two songs. They ended up giving the work its name:

Stars Dance — Selena Gomez
Floating Through Space — Sia & David Guetta

My grandmother has always been one of my favourite people. She has given me a kind of unconditional love and support that I don't think can really be repaid. So, in the end, the painting became less about what was inside the frame and more about what I wanted to say to her.

No matter what planet…
No matter what galaxy…
I will always love you!
